New Ways of Interacting with Muslim Artists

28 11 2007

Do You HAve A FacebookAs the World-Wide-Web develops and moves into Web 2.0, newer ways of interacting with your facorite musicians, comedians, actors, etc. are also being developed. One of the latest evolutions in this arena is the unveiling of Facebook’s ability for bands, public figures, comedians, etc. to create dedicated pages for themselves which would feature items such as videos, photos, events, and more. Those who have facebook profiles can then add themselves as Fans of these bands, comedians, etc. and recieve regular updates from the group, and more. One of the first Muslim Entertainers to utilize this feature is Detroit Nasheed group “Seven 8 Six”. We invite you to click the link below and explore their page to find out more info. *Note: You will have to log into Facebook to access the below link.

26 11 2007

This is an interesting piece put together by a very obviously devout Sami Yusuf fan. I am actually quite impressed with how well the video turned out by taking composites from Sami’s previous videos and live footage.

Native Deen on CBS

7 05 2007

Native Deen was recently featured on a CBS special entitled Arts Within Religion. This special ran in late April 2007, and is a good stepping stone for Muslims in Entertainment. Just a few years ago, Muslim Entertainers, particularly those in Nasheeds, were not getting much press attention. However, in recent times, we have seen Time Magazine cover Sami Yusuf, Native Deen on CBS, and Seven 8 Six on BBC, just to name a few. Check out the video clip below to see part of the CBS program.

Zakaria Productions – Australia Based Nasheed Label

6 05 2007

Belal AssaadZakaria Productions started as a recording studio, providing Muslims to come and record Nasheeds, Qur’an, Lectures, etc. This further developed into a record label as time went by, Alhumdulillah. With the expertise and experience in the Industry of Sound and Professional Studios, Zakaria Productions provides the utmost quality in sound and mastering.

Looks like our Australian brethren are finally catching up on the nasheed craze which has swept the world in the last few years. From the sound of their samples on the website, I look forward to seeing what they have to offer. Of special notice, is their recently signed artists, Zaid Boyd, who has such a sweet voice, you can just hear the sincerity in it. I highly recommend checking out the website and listening to the samples, and I will keep everyone updated as more information is released about their artists and productions.

Hamza Robertson (New Nasheed Artist)

3 05 2007

Hamza Robertson

[Source: Wikipedia]Hamza Robertson aka Tom Robertson was born in Oldham, Lancashire in the North-West of England. Since school through college, he involved himself in music and the performing arts. He was a part of the local theatre workshop, where he wrote music and acted in plays. He took part in a variety of bands beyond college, playing a variety of instruments and writing music. He still produces his own unique pieces.

Through his early academic career, Hamza played the keyboard and performed vocals and as such played in several bands, later becoming lead singer, keyboard player and guitarist in a band he formed with his friends. Hamza has undertaken a series of solo performances. He studied Performing Arts Popular Music for three years.

In working with Awakening, Hamza aims to take part in a new dynamics in calling to God, or ‘dawah’, in a new world, through producing songs with a positive message. He feels that too many people know too little about Islam and the beauty of its essential values, values which bring about harmony between people, as opposed to discord.

Hamza believes that music, being a powerful source of energy, can be employed to influence people toward either good or bad. He feels there is too much ‘negative music’ in the world giving people the wrong message, and bringing about within them the desire to do things which are against their inherently pure nature, i.e their ‘fitrah’.

Hamza has finished working on his first album ‘Something About Life’ – (already released).
